Sustainability @ Chai Crew 

Our climate is in crisis right now, that’s why we all have to do our bit. Chai Crew is lean and green and we love cycle power. Lets face it, its just greening if it lacks real power to change. Sustainability at Chai Crew has three approaches, Reduce Carbon Emissions & Waste; Sustainable Local Suppliers and Caring about our Community. 

Reducing Carbon Emissions & Waste

With our pedal assist bicycle cafes we can pedal to multiple locations around the city. We store onboard so no need for accompanying delivery vans. With our water and wind proof protective awning we can and have been trading in all weather. Folks, we’re proud to say we’re not clogging the airways of our cities pedestrians with noxious gases from car fumes. 

Our bicycles have their own power supply so no need to plug in to diesel generators or electric sockets. With our built-in 6kg LPG gas cylinder we can keep our emissions low and only renewing every six days. A 12 volt rechargeable battery powers our hot water and lights. Its not zero emissions but its definitely a step in the right direction.

We use compostable cups (www.robertmccabepackaging), and we provide single use extras like lids, serviettes, stirrers upon request.  We find the customer will bin those items almost immediately if displayed in front of them. Our chai waste is pure heavenly compost for the garden!

Local Suppliers 

Our suppliers have supported us and not the other way around. As a small start up we had to choose carefully. We believe in quality and we know that quality exists in abundance in Ireland. 

Our Chai is made with quality loose Assam tea supplied by Irelands award winning tea specialist Niks Tea. Their tea is organically certified and Niks Tea are gold members of Bord Bia’s ‘Origin Green Ireland’ scheme since 2022. As a leading Irish brand that grew from humble beginnings to become Irelands leading tea specialist, Niks Tea have supported and encouraged Chai Crew from the start. “You’re onto something, keep going!” they told me when I knocked on their door back in October 2023, and so I did.

We know you love our vegan treats supplied by @Sarahsliving.ie, a local Irish producer of quality vegan products. Dublin based they deliver to wherever we’re parked up. Their Bliss balls are packed with protein and come in Gogi Berry, Matcha, Hazelnut & Cacao, Salted Caramel and pair naturally with our Chai in our Grab’N’Go combo deal.

Our single source spices are sourced from Eurasia Supermarket. Our compostable packaging is supplied by Robert McCabe Packaging Ltd. Based in Drogheda since 1930 they made our branded cups and deliver to our doorstep. See we told you we wanted to stay offline and buy local.

Caring for our Community

We bring joy in every cup of Chai. Just like the roadside Chai Wallahs all over India where customers from all walks of life including tourists gather to ‘Chai..Sutta..Chronicle’ the Chai Crew bicycle café has become a hub of conversation, friendliness and fun. The bicycle is a victory for our community. As our customer base grows we are building a Chai Community. We say ‘Come for the chai and stay for the experience!

We are happy to be part of National Bike week with Pedalpalooza and Bike Town Festival, run in conjunction with Dublin City Council and cycling groups.
